Lexington, Ky. (AP) – A suspect shot and injured a state strooper on Sunday and fled to a church in Kentucky, where several people were injured in a second shooting, the authorities said.

The shooting ended when the suspect was killed, said Kentucky’s state police on social media.

After shooting the Trooper, the suspect ended up in the Richmond Road Baptist Church in the southwest of Lexington, the State Police said. The police have not provided any additional information about the death of the suspect.

The Trooper was shot down at 11:36 am in Fayette County, where Lexington is located, the State Police said. The suspect then fled and ended up in the Baptist church, the police said.

The shooting in the church resulted in several injuries, said Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear in a post on social media. The Trooper and others were treated in a nearby hospital, but other details were still on the rise, the governor said. The extent of the injuries was not immediately known.

“Please pray for anyone affected by these meaningless acts of violence and let’s thank us for the quick response from the Lexington police and the State Police of Kentucky,” Beshear said.
