Flagg – who spent his only lecture season in Duke before he made the leap to the NBA – on average 20.5 points and five rebounds in his two games in Las Vegas. It is not unusual or unexpected for teams to close top choices or NBA rotation players who are early in the summer schedules; San Antonio closed Victor Wembanyama for the summer after two games in Las Vegas after he was number 1 in 2023.

Flagg has shown a variety of skills in his two games, including the quite a bit of downcourt of the ball. He was the most important attraction in Las Vegas and seemed to be able to easily handle the spotlight.

“I have experienced all this before, the same to the university, the same expectations, the same people talking about you,” Flagg said after a 31-point attempt to San Antonio on Saturday. “So it’s just trusting at work, trusting all those hours, just knowing what I can do.”

Summer League in Las Vegas runs until July 20.
