Much has changed on the central coast since Gavin and Raylee McLeod started as casuals on the countertop at McDonalds when they were 15.

The opening of Northconnex in 2020 reduced travel times between Sydney and Terrigal for an hour, on a good day.

And big money began to enter, including celebrities such as former supermodel Jennifer Hawkins and her husband Jake Wall, who bought a ‘knockdown’ in 2022 for $ 6 million from Terrigal.

In the same year, the Atlassian co-founder Scott Farquhar and his wife Kim Jackson broke a beach in North Avoca for almost $ 11 million.

And now the Mcleods are selling their pride a joy, an incredible residence on the beach called ‘Ocean House’ that lasted four years to build in Wamberal.

Mention at Mat Steinwede of McGrath Terrigal, the six -bedroom residence with six bedrooms, seven bathrooms with a garage with four cars has a price guide of $ 25 million that will destroy the central coastal record.

“We both enjoyed working at McDonalds in various capacities, from working at the reception to higher management,” Gavin said.

“Over the years we have bought and sold 10 restaurants from the Central Coast to Newcastle.”

They sold a lot about Big Macs at that time and could rustle in 2019 $ 3.95 million to buy a small beach house with a DA for a new house on a 1014m² block on 57 Ocean View Drive.

“We lived there for a few years and adjusted the plans a bit,” said Gavin.

“I love this house.

“It’s private and quiet … you can sit in the spa and sunken lounge and nobody can see you when they walk past the beach.

“And you have this spectacular view of the moonlight, sunrise and the lights of Terrigal.”

The house on four levels lasted four years to build. A lift slides between every level.

Even the geothermal swimming pool is smart: it cleans itself and has Olympic grade swimming jets.

But now that their three children have moved, they want to shrink, and Steinwede is convinced that the building will establish a new benchmark and the current central coastal record of $ 16.2 million will break for a house in Wagstaffe in 2022.

“The construction for the Wamberal House was near $ 22 million and I just sold a knockdown nearby for $ 11.5 million,” said Steinwede.

“It is probably the best house I have ever been, with great craftsmanship and construction.

“It’s like a work of art on the beach.”

A collaboration between Architects White + Dickson and high-end builder Tecorp, the house, on a 1014m² block, has advanced technology everywhere and every luxury that you can imagine, including a fast commercial lift that glides between all four levels.

Steinwede says that the opening of NorthConnex was a game changer in front of the central coast.

“We have beautiful beaches, just an hour from Sydney,” he said.

There are six bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

“Northconnex has changed our access, you don’t have to travel for hours to go to Byron or to the south to Hyams Beach.

“It’s just logical for a family – you can’t let children sit for more than an hour or two, forget it!”

Proptrack data shows that house prices in Wamberal have risen 44 percent to a median of $ 1.55 million during five years since NorthConex opened and 56 percent to a median of $ 1.44 million in Terrigal.

And the growth has been even higher in Copacabana, with 75 percent to more than $ 1.63 million and 66 percent to $ 1.69 to Avoca Beach.

Compared to 45 percent growth at Kiama and 33 percent growth on Hyams Beach on the south coast.

Proptrack senior economist Angus Moore says that NorthConnex must have been a contributing factor for the price growth of the central coast.

“Connectivity is something that many buyers will appreciate,” he said.

“The changes after the union, which mean that people are less connected to commuting and living near the city center, have preferred more extensive areas of our cities, such as the Central Coast, which are typically affordable houses while they are still a workforce.

“With prices more than 50 percent since the start of the Pandemie, we will see more sale of millions of dollars on the central coast than ever was the case.”
