Summer travel pushes the sale of gasoline by 10% in the first half of May

The fuel consumption enriched by around 10 percent in the first half of May, while traveling from the summer season led to an increase in demand for the fuel, according to provisional sales data of fuel shop for the state.

The fuel consumption rose back to 1.5 million tons in 1-15 May of 1.37 million tonnes of turnover per year. The demand had risen by 10.5 percent compared to the consumption of 1.36 million tons in 1-15 May 2023 and almost 46 percent higher than the first fourteen days of May 2021.

The sale of diesel rose by 2 percent to 3.36 million tonnes, the data from three state -owned companies, which control around 90 percent of the fuel market, was apparent. The consumption of the most used fuel of India has been recovered since last month.

Diesel, the lifeline of transport and national agri -economy, saw only 2 percent growth in demand in the tax year ending on March 31, 2025.

In April, diesel consumption rose to 8.23 ​​million tons, an increase of almost 4 percent above the demand in the period from a year ago. During 1-15 May, the sale of diesel was 2 percent higher than 3.29 million tonnes of consumption in the same period last year. It was 1.3 percent higher than 1-15, 2023 and 16 percent more than the first fourteen days of May 2021.

The sale of diesel increased by 5.2 percent compared to 3.19 million tons that was used in the first half of April 2025.

The start of the summer triggers national demand for irrigation and for air conditioners in urban areas. Industry officials said that Diesel had reached a slow job in recent months, which led to speculation about the future. The growth since April was on the back of the consumption increase for elections a year ago.

ATF growth slows down

The consumption growth of the aircraft fuel (ATF) delayed up to 1.1 percent to 3.27,900 tons in May 1-15 as flight restrictions over some parts of northern India because of tensions with dented Pakistan question. The sale of ATF was 8.6 percent higher than consumption in 1-15, 2023 and 11 percent more than the first half of May 2021.

Month to month, the consumption of the aircraft fuel fell by 5.8 percent compared to 3.48.100 tons of 1-15 April.

LPG remained in the rapid lane with 10.4 percent growth to 1.34 million tonnes in the first two weeks of May, powered by Ujjawala connections. Since 2019, volumes have been added to almost 5 months in domestic cooking gas consumption.

The sale of cooking gas was 10 percent higher than 1.22 million tonnes of consumption of 1-15 May, 2023 and 33 percent more than 1.01 million tonnes in the first half of May 2021. The turnover of the LPG increased by 7.3 percent compared to 1.25 million tonnes of 1-15 April.
