Global Hit suffered his first defeat on Home Sand since last year’s Korea Cup when he was conveniently defeated by success Baekpa in the Kra Cup Classic (2000m Kor-G2) at the Seoul Racecourse on Sunday afternoon.
Only five weeks after this year’s international races, Global Hit was sent as the chances of successfully defending the Cup classic, which he won a year ago on his route to 3RD Place, the best of the locals, in the Korea Cup.
In a race without clear early speed, Jockey Kim Hye-Sun chose to bring the worldwide hit to the fore from the widest gate. From challenged on the back directly through money crown, they quickly regained the lead, but as soon as the field hit the straight and Jin Kyum for success Baekpa, who had stalked the favorite all the time, his move had made, Global Hit had no answer.
The margin was four lengths on the line with speed Young another four back in 3RD.
“In the training this week I thought, why not racing (on pace)?” Winning Jockey Jin Kyum, who his third group race of the year and of his career-houses after victories over Oasis Blue in the Kra Cup Mile and Korean Derby, said in-house KRBC. “Global hit Drew Wide and then went ahead, so I thought, if I just stay with him, I won’t go wrong. I didn’t really expect good luck that Baekpa would end as well as he did.”
“If you look at how success Baekpa has run today, even if the global hit had been at its best, I am not sure if the result would have been different.”
“We had a really bad run in the owner cup the last time,” the winning trainer Min Jang-Gi told KRBC. “I hoped that this would be somewhat a recovery race, so it is clearly very good to win. I hope even more of him in the future.”

The Global Hit Rider would probably like to find it. “I am upset,” said Kim Hye-Sun de Cameraploeg who followed her. “I knew that there would be no pace in the race, and we know he could lead as he did in Dubai. But it went wrong (at the back of the back) when he was challenged by horses on both sides of him. It took a long time to arrange him again.”
As far as the Korea Cup is concerned, Kim said that the performance did not change much. “As far as I am concerned, he is fine for the Korea Cup, that has always been the target. The Japanese (horses) will be there, and we know how fast they are, so if there is something, it can fit more than this.”
