Manchester Storm and Coventry Blaze produced drama and ten goals in the Storm Shelter, with the home team who left a victory to win a victory when opening the new season.

“Every time you get the honor to wear the ‘C’, it means a lot, and I’m going to do my best to lead this team,” said Chase Harrison, who was declared storm captain for their first game of the season. “The boys make it easy for me and to win the victory here means a lot to get us off.”

The game started with the storm with the help of their home advantage to exert persistent pressure and eventually earn the first powerplay of the game. Just after the benefit started, Blaze Signing Colton Saucerman took a stumbling minor to give the home team a 5-on-3. This was quickly converted by a beautiful one-timer from the top of the circles by Brandon Cutler for the first goal of the season only six minutes.

The fire had one of their biggest chances with a separate opportunity that was refused thanks to a great back check. Manchester then extended their lead to a 2-0 on a 4-on-2 chance, with Brady Gilmour the last touch. Forty-eight seconds later, Tyler Hinam made it three, so that blaze head coach Kevin Moore cried a time-out.

Coventry ended the period on a high, initiative with a bad storm converted into a 2-on-1 chance converted by Alessio Luciani.

The high scoring affair paused during the first half of the second period, albeit not without opportunities. The impasse was broken when Storm’s fatal powerplay hit again by Joseph Nardi at 27:37 at 4-1.

“Since the start of the camp we have put a lot of work in our special teams,” Harrison continued. “They looked really good tonight and translated into a number of large goals for us.”

However, the Blaze fought back in one thanks to PowerPlay goals automatically -William Boyson and Colton Saucerman, both apart before the period to withdraw the score to 4-3.

Coventry’s comeback was completed 7:40 in the third when Elijiah Barriga scored his first for his new team, but this competition was not ready yet.

With about four and a half minutes to go, Beat Mat Robson van Loren Ulett from the Circle Beat Mat Robson to put back the hosts and that turned out to be the game winner, where Gary had added an empty goal with 89 seconds to play.
