Bolton Wanderers need a spark to reignite their season in January. There have been promising signs under Steven Schumacher, but form has dropped off for BWFC during the hectic winter period.

That will bring about change in the squad, with a handful of players looking for an exit. Will Forrester has already joined Leyton Orient on a permanent basis, and Mansfield Town signed Victor Adeboyejo.

Earlier this week it was reported that full-back Josh Dacres-Cogley is another player who could be in line for a winter move away from the ToughSheet Community Stadium. Now one of his admirers has been named.

Write on his PatreonReporter Alan Nixon claims that the Bolton Wanderers defender is being monitored by Stockport County. The fellow Greater Manchester team are exploring a deal with Dacres-Cogley seemingly free to leave.

Josh Dacres-Cogley is up for grabs in Bolton Wanderer’s exodus

As previously mentioned, Bolton Wanderers are shaking up the squad this month. Forrester and Adeboyejo are gone, and there are also questions about the futures of John McAtee and Joel Randall.

Dacres-Cogley had a regular role in the team, but has not played a League One match since November 29. Cyrus Christie and Jordie Osei-Tutu were the preferred options on the right.

The 29-year-old may not have done enough to secure a place under Schumacher, but there is a widespread feeling that he will be a very solid addition to a League One side. He has proven to be a solid player at this level after starring in League Two.

Dacres-Cogley is a reliable option on the right and plays his best football when given the freedom to attack. He can also operate as a full-back, perhaps making best use of his crossing ability in that role.

An ideal asset for Stockport County?

Dave Challinor mainly deploys his Stockport County side in a formation with three defenders and full-backs. Usually it’s a 3-4-2-1 or a 3-4-1-2, but sometimes he turns to a four-man backline in a 4-2-3-1.

Dacres-Cogley has shown he can be successful in both roles during his career. It means Edgeley Park could be an ideal destination if he wants to leave BWFC.

Staying in the northwest would also mean he wouldn’t have to pick up sticks and travel long distances. Dacres-Cogley is a good fit for the system and it would likely suit his situation off the field as well.

Stockport County are set to land a proven League One player from divisional rivals in Bolton Wanderers. It could prove that the Trotters’ loss here is the Hatters’ gain.
