Buy – Tanner McKee, QB PHI
As the end of the season approaches, I’m finding it much easier to find small pieces to purchase. The big trades have been made and teams rarely look at wholesale changes until they are much closer to the draft. So this time of year is all about taking some risky, upside moves that can fly so far under the radar as to be barely noticed. McKee may not be a name on the tip of your tongue, but he is an impressive player who has performed very well when called upon in Philadelphia. In the preparation and the regular competition he looked confident as a passer and also has all the necessary arm talent.
This offseason, it’s starting to look like there aren’t enough quarterbacks. With only one or maybe two rookie starters coming out, there are plenty of QB-needy teams that could be looking for an alternate way to find a starting quarterback. McKee is entering the final year of his rookie contract in Philadelphia, making this offseason the perfect opportunity for the Eagles to trade McKee and recoup a draft pick they could spend on their next young, cost-controlled backup for Jalen Hurts. If a team trades for McKee, you’re a starting quarterback for nothing. If a team doesn’t trade for McKee, you’ll have to wait another season until he becomes a free agent and can become a starter somewhere. Price-wise, it’s exactly the low-risk, high-upside option for this time of year. It will probably cost you next to nothing. In minor leagues he may have waivers. In deeper Superflex leagues, he could cost you a fourth-round pick in the future. I’d love to part with a future third-rounder, but I doubt you’d have to pay that much.
