Although there are more people who show respect on the court and who really serve as role models for young people, there are also those who have a different approach, and therefore they are not particularly popular in tennis circles.
The Nothing Major podcast was a chance for Steve Johnson and Jack Sock to analyze this season and determine who the baddest tennis player was this season.
Johnson has no doubt that this was so Yulia Putintsevawho was behaving bizarrely and ignoring a ball child who was trying to fit her balls.
“It’s Yulia Putintseva, she always seems to be in controversy,” Johnson said.
“She got the ball boy staring; you don’t do anything with the ball people.
“Ball kids, ball adults, you have to treat them completely with respect, you can’t chase those people while you’re on the field. I don’t like that.”
Comments
Boris Becker took to social media to comment on the incident, believing that Putintseva behaved terribly towards the girl and that she really needs to change her approach.
Jack Sock notes that Putintseva has a trick with her shoelaces: when she loses, she wraps up her shoelaces and puts them in her bag, and when the crucial moment in the match comes, she slides to the ball and says that her lace is broken. There are many tennis players who have similar strategies for winning, but this behavior clearly crosses all boundaries.
Whether such criticism will have an impact on the Kazakh tennis player, and whether she will change her approach in the future, remains to be seen. The question is to what extent such comments and public reactions can influence the further course of her career and the way in which she presents herself on the field.
Some find such behavior funny and emphasize that the tennis world needs a little controversy, as well as interesting moments that also attract public attention.
