He is getting closer to 1000 driving victories in his armor racing career and Michael Stanley has found a happy at home since he settled in Menangle.
The former Victorian thought that the time was ripe to make the move to the north to chase the larger Prizemoney races.
And while experienced few Rockknoll Doo and Ubetcha Tigerpie were the two tried and tested artists in his team, the 44-year-old decided that they were his younger horses who were to make an impact on our No. 1 track.
“The majority of the team we raised were three and two-year-olds,” said Stanley.
“Since then we have picked up a few more, such as the answer that the team has improved.”
Stanley landed a winning double last weekend with Sao Paulo Simba and the answer and goes to Menangle tonight with prospects for another double.
Apart from his two stable runners, Fear the Pain (Race 4) and Coastal Drive (Race 5), Stanley also picked up the ride on another Victorian who made the switch to New South Wales, trainer Anton Golino.
Golino, a master of the Square-Gaiters, has four runners in the position of tonight, the $ 30,600 Menangle Park Trotters Cup (Race 3).
Stanley will partner Sheetweb Weaver for Golino, while Luke McCarthy Rakero Blaze drives, Brad Hewitt is on Toro Stride and Bailey McDonough Pilots Impact Stride.
Recorded on 979 victories Stanley is more focused on winning gaming races and adding his eight successes of group 1.
“Milestones are always great,” he said.
āThey are not something I strive for, but rather plan the business model to win the larger races.
“I don’t count it down, but if it happens, it will be a great achievement.”
Stanley is enthusiastic about the prospects of Sao Paulo Simba:
āI said a while since he was my next open-class horse.
āHe is still not aged and is a bit lanky and awkward, but we drove him conservatively to teach him some Ringcraft.
āWhen we came close to the Victoria Derby Heats, we started to raise him.
āLast week he was a hit more traderlike, although there is still that bit of Goofiness.
‘But as a cam [Hart] And itzbuddha came to my handlebar, he kicked in gear and won well.
āThe Vic Derby will be its next target and the 2700m Derby should fit it perfectly.
āI think he still has piles of improvement in him.
“He is quite long, but still has not filled well and has some adult to do.”
