The Canadian Wild Card Marina Stakusic survived a wild opening match for ladies to continue on Tuesday in the Guadalajara Open in Mexico.
The 20-year-old from Mississauga, Ont., Defeated the 22-year-old Russian Polina Kudermetova 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 in a rain delayed by rain 500 match that lasted two hours, 29 minutes to complete.
Stakusic was 3-1 down in the last set, but regrouped, gathered and went with 4-4 in the rain delay. She won the last two games after the game resumed to complete the game.
Kudermetova finished for Stakusic on Azen (5-3) and had fewer double errors (14-9) and casual errors (33-30).
The winning percentage of Stakusic on the first Serve was 66. She won eight service and eight return games. She also won eight out of 13 breaking points and saved six from 14 breaking points.
Stakusic plays the third placed Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia on Wednesday in the round of 16.
Later Tuesday the Rebecca Marino from Vancouver drove past the Italian Wild Card Martina Trevisan 6-2, 6-3 in an opening round game originally planned for Monday.
Marino had 11 aces, five double errors and 11 non-forced errors in the 73-minute game. Marino won seven service games and five return games. She won five of the eight breaking points and had a winning percentage of 65 percent on the first portions, compared to 47 percent for Trevisan.
Marino plays on Wednesday in the round of 16 sixth placed Tatjana Maria from Germany.
