Pupils in primary school have a taste of table tennis with the help of the sports leaders of tomorrow, as covered by our latest Spotlight film, now on YouTube.

Students from the Ilkley Grammar School in Yorkshire traveled to the neighboring Aswith Primary School to lead a coaching event for the younger students.

They based the session on some of the TT Kidz program activities, they learned how to use communication skills to ensure that the young people had a positive and inclusive first experience of table tennis.

The event was organized by Table Tennis England Area Manager Lauren Evans, in collaboration with Ruth Whitehead from North Yorkshire Sport, the organizer of the school games (Harrogate) & Youth Engagement Manager.

Local coach and North East Local Organizing Group member, Bob Moffat, also supported the event, in which 57 students – 33 girls and 24 boys – participated.

Lauren said about the day: “At the Askwith Under -11s Primary School Festival we were able to show the adaptability of the TT Kidz program. We drove the festival with minimal equipment during an afternoon -using the activity plans and resource kit -by keeping things easy and drifting the young leaders with the skills they need.

“My goal was to give the young leaders creative freedom and to increase their self -confidence while guiding the primary school students through the activities. The day was fun and gave the children of the Askwith Primary School a taste of a new sport!”

Watch our video about the day below – and watch out for more about our new young leaders, soon!
