The best hurricane is the one who never lands. There can still be serious floods along the coast, but the worst destruction is avoided. It seems that a few pilots decided to brush the edge of a huge storm at sea. A flight from Spirit Airlines flew over hurricane on Monday while it was a storm of category 4. The cheap courier, based in Florida, stated that the cockpit crew of the aircraft safely navigated above the hurricane. It is likely that the passengers had no idea that the turbulence she experienced was a tropical cyclone with wind that beat more than 130 miles per hour.

Spirit Airlines Flight NK 2298 flew from Philadelphia to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The route took the plane along the east coast and through the Bermuda triangle. The Canary Yellow Airbus A320 flew at 37,000 feet when it approached the southern edge of the hurricane at the end of the four -hour flight. The height was reportedly high enough to prevent the worst winds of the weather system and the aircraft landed safely without injuries. Spirit airlines told Vs today:
“Safety is always our top priority. Our pilots followed procedures and ATC instructions (Air Traffic Control) while they are on their way to San Juan (SJU). Our Operations Control Center follows the weather systems closely and works with our pilots and ATC to determine flight paths that navigate safely around or above unfavorable weather conditions.”
Spirit Airlines cannot compete with real hurricane hunters
There are planes that are task to fly directly through hurricanes. They are not managed by Spirit Airlines and you can’t buy a ticket to fly on it. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has a small fleet of Hurricane Hunter Aircraft. It is exactly how it sounds. The desk takes a plane loaded with sensors and flies through a storm to collect data for predictors. The Lockheed WP-3D Orion, one of the models used, was originally designed to hunt for submarines. The flight can be rough if the extreme turbulence rattles and throws things around the cabin.
Saving a hurricane hunter flight is probably easier than dealing with the financial situation Spirit. In a quarterly SEC application, the airline admitted that it might not survive in the coming 12 months if nothing changes. Spirit lost $ 245.8 million for the second quarter of this year, with reference to the low demand for leisure trips. Last year the airline presented bankruptcy in the aftermath of his merger in which Jetblue was shot in the federal court in antitrust soils. Spirit is still struggling to endure a piece of rough air financially.
