In conversation with Caton Bredar from FanDuel TV on Gulfstream ParkBanahan said Sovereignty has galloped in Lexington in recent weeks and will join Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott’s string “early in the new year” at the Payson Park Training Center in Indiantown, Florida.
“We’ll get him to Bill and then move on and hopefully have as good a year next year as we had this year,” Banahan said.
Speaking to Bredar after winning the Mr. Prospector Stakes (G3) with Godolphin’s Knights Bridge Mott said he hoped Sovereignty would join him in Payson in “about a week.”
“It would make a good New Year’s gift,” Mott added.
Following his Triple Crown exploits, Sovereignty raced twice Saratoga Race Course with a win in the Jim Dandy Stakes (G2) before winning by 10 lengths in the Travers Stakes (G1) on 23 August.
Sovereignty then shipped to Sea where he was the morning favorite for the Nov. 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1), but scratched with a fever a few days before the race.
In six starts this season, Sovereignty won five, including three Grade 1s, and finished second in the Florida Derby (G1) with earnings of $5,692,000.
