The son of Sports writer (from his last harvest in the Southern Hemisphere) has a 50% win rate and continues to build on a strong foundation laid by his mother, Careo -A Rock’nroll Hannover mare who won in New Zealand and New South Wales, before ending her career in Western Australia.
Bred and raced by Helbers and Arnup, Zenario now advances to the Vicbred Semi-Finals, with connections eyeing a place in the $100,000 Group 1 Final on November 22. A return to Globe Derby is also on the radar, where he could attempt to defend his Southern Cross crown – a title he claimed as a two-year-old – on December 20.
Helbers, an old standard breeder, had previous success with it Bulla Park Well donea 15-time winner Changeover sold through the Adelaide Yearling Sale.
Adding to the weekend’s highlights, the duo’s two-year-old filly midnight scored in style in St. Arnaud on Sunday, beating older rivals in the opening event. Like Zenario, she was bred and raced by the South Australian couple, further underscoring their growing influence on the national stage.
