Stevenage host Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday looking for their first win in seven games in League One.

Stevenage’s once promising play-off campaign has fizzled out in dramatic fashion Alex Revell’s team has gone seven games without a win.

A 3-0 defeat to Exeter City in their last game epitomizes a dreadful period that left Boro two points behind the top six heading into the clash with Bolton Wanderers.

Almost everything has been a problem for the team in recent games, but none more so than scoring. With Alex Reid losing his usual red-hot form, Revell has moved to add Harry Cornick is on loan in the side. The Stevenage boss will be hoping he gets off to a good start in this match, allowing the team to turn around their form.

Bolton Wanderers have been on a similar trajectory to Stevenage, but a 1-0 win over nearest neighbors Wigan Athletic has seen them end their winless run in dramatic fashion.

Much of the Wanderers that emerged were the leadership of Josh Sheehan. The Welsh international scored the winner on Saturday and was BWFC’s only goalscorer in their last win before that.

The Trotters will know they have to use their derby win to go through and will feel they are heading to Stevenage at just the right time.

Here, a handful of our writers give their predictions for the game…

Matt Bottomley

“Stevenage are having a torrid time and the defeat to Exeter City showed no signs of the form changing any time soon. They need a full 90 minutes and just a solid performance.”

“Bolton Wanderers’ win over Wigan Athletic felt like a real moment and they will go to the Lamex Stadium smelling blood. They cannot let Saturday’s performance be a one-off.”

“Although BWFC are struggling on the road, I don’t see Stevenage finding a solution despite improved performances.”

Prediction: Stevenage 0-1 Bolton Wanderers

James Ray

“Bolton Wanderers are in poor form but a derby day win over Wigan Athletic could be the catalyst for their season. It hasn’t been pretty but it doesn’t have to be as long as you can boast about your rivals.”

“Stevenage is also slipping. They have games to play with those around them, but one win in the last nine suggests they won’t be able to maintain the pace they set early on.

“However, Revell’s side have a solid record on home soil. I think they are good value for a point against a BWFC side that is not exactly firing on all cylinders.”

Prediction: Stevenage 1-1 Bolton Wanderers
