Slumping Juan Soto Saves Mets from No-Hitter-But still hears a lot of angry

Juan Soto heard a little angry after one defensive misplay on Wednesday, and a few more after a few failed battle rings as the recent attacking slumps of his and his team continue.

The $ 765 million Slugger has at least saved the Mets the shame and the shame of a No-Hitter against them, with a solo-home run with one in the ninth inning of a series-wiping 4-1 loss for Gavin Williams and the Guardians.

“I didn’t think about the no-hitter,” Soto said after the game. “I worked on my swing and tried to do the same thing I did since the first inning. I just got on.”

Soto had not delivered much on the album since the All-Star break and came into that start .164 with an OPS under .600 more than 17 games.

Soten’s explosion, who barely avoided the gloving Cleveland Center field player Angel Martínez, also represented the first hit for the Mets since the fourth inning of the 3-2 loss of Tuesday for the Guardians.

“It’s always difficult. I feel really bad, especially for the starters, they did very well and we just couldn’t give them,” Soto said. “It is frustrating for the attack and it is frustrating for the starters … but we just have to find a way.”

That must come quickly for the METS, who have dropped eight of their last nine games with a weekend series in Milwaukee against the NL Central-Looning Brouwers.

“We have to be better. As a group we have to get through,” Soto said. “It will not be easy. It is a challenge, but we have to go outside and take it.

“Nobody will bring a trophy here and give it to us. We have to go outside and take it.”

Soto also heard angry in the sixth after he had played a ball over his head in the right field in a run-scoring triple by Gabriel Arias. Mets Manager Carlos Mendoza said he was fine with how Soto went after that ball.

“Yes, it went over his head and it bounced away from him, so yes, no problems there,” said Mendoza.

Asked if he believes that Soto’s Late Thuis Run can be a turning point for the four-fold All-Star, added Mendoza: “I think I said it before the game, the last few games have been there signing that he is more balanced, he is connected, he is briefly at the ball.
