Arne Slot believes that it is ‘unrealistic’ to expect that Chelsea will not play by the Liverpool press after a last-minute defeat on Stamford Bridge.
The Reds lost for the third time in the space of a week when Moises Caicedo and Estevao Willian scored on either side of a Cody Gakpo strike to achieve a huge victory for the hosts.
Arsenal has now overtaken Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table after the Gunners West Ham defeated earlier in the day.
Arne Slot makes ‘unrealistic’ Chelsea comment while Liverpool loses
“Another disappointing loss that is clear,” said Slot in his press conference after the game. “Similar to the palace game, although a bit different. In the first half we did not play our best football, but we have created three great opportunities; they made one.
“In the second half we made more than enough to score more than one.
“In the last 10 it was end-to-end. Both teams could have won it. We didn’t, Chelsea.”
Chelsea operated spaces in the defense of Liverpool during the game, and their winner was the highlight of a back-to-front movement.
“Yes, there are gaps,” Slot admitted. “If you play as we play and the style they play. But it is no surprise that both teams will play through the press.
“They had many injuries, but still had players to bring the bank quality. It is unrealistic to expect that they will not play through the press.”
