Luispool left Luis Diaz friendly against AC Milan in the midst of uncertainty about his future, while Bayern Munich continues their attempt to sign the winger.
Head coach Arne Slot decided that it was best not to choose Diaz after a summer of interest in him and with the 28-year-old apparently open for a move from Anfield.
Bayern has had a persistent dialogue with Liverpool about the Colombian winger, although the Premier League champions have sustained that the former Porto player is not for sale.
They picked up a first approach, which lashed out Liverpool and then followed an offer of ÂŁ 58.5 million, which was rejected.
But Bayern was again in conversation with Liverpool last week and Slot did not opt for the 4-2 defeat against AC Milan.
Slot said: “He is really training us well, but we have not yet decided not to play him yet. I am used to talking regularly with most of my players. Lucho is really training well and we have decided that he is not playing at the moment. I can’t do much left.”
Barcelona had also made a first application for Diaz before he seized Marcus Rashford of Manchester United instead.
There has also been interest from the Saudi Pro-League in Diaz, which according to Liverpool is worth more than € 100 million.
Slot, however, said that Darwin Nunez was absent in the AC Milan game because of a small injury, not because of the possibility he can leave.
He added: “In the situation of Darwin, he also trained very well and played a few good games for us, but he was injured, so we didn’t want to take any risk with him either.”
Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo scored Liverpool’s goals against AC Milan, while new signing Florian Wirtz also played.
