Sky Sports update on previous deadline day report of Arsenal approach for Sandro Tonali

Earlier today it was reported that Arsenal had made an attempt to sign Sandro Tonali.

The claim was made by Florian Plettenberg, who works for Sky Sports in Germany, mainly covering Bayern Munich, and is also reportedly a ‘transfer window expert’.

The Sky Sports Germany reporter claims to know that Arsenal had already seen an initial approach from Arsenal rejected by Newcastle United.

As with all transference stories, it is best to approach them with extreme caution, believe it when I see it, etc.

The Sky Sports Germany reporter doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to these types of transfer claims, including things he has said about Newcastle United in the past.

An update came very quickly Keith Downiewho regularly reports on Newcastle United for Sky Sports.

He has rejected Florian Plettenberg’s claims.

Keith Downie says; “Newcastle United have had no approach from Arsenal for Sandro Tonali, do not expect one and would not wish to receive one. There have been no discussions about the sale of the midfielder this year. If Newcastle United are unwilling to let Joe Willock leave because he is light in midfield, the same (but stronger) message exists for Tonali.”

Not much was seemingly expected from Newcastle United on deadline day, apart from Jamaal Lascelles’ move to Leicester City.
