Manchester United made headlines this morning when they sacked manager Ruben Amorim.
The club announced its decision through an official public statement, citing the team’s sixth-place finish in the Premier League as the reason for the timing of Amorim’s departure.
Naturally, this fateful moment in the club’s history has brought with it a whirlwind of questions surrounding the true nature of Man United’s decision, with several reports appearing in the newspapers.
Murky waters
David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that the reason behind Amorim’s dismissal was a breakdown in relations with the club’s leadership, with both CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox making the decision.
Although any mention of Amorim’s performance as manager is excluded from the club’s statement, it has not taken long for some observers to point out the problems with the Portuguese manager’s approach.
The experts attack Amorim
During a panel discussion on Sky Sports, Jamie O’Hara simply said: “Mind you, he’s not good enough to be Man United manager. It’s that simple.”
“You stayed with him because you thought ‘we’re going to give him a chance, we have to give managers time’,” he continued, before claiming: “He’s not good enough. You’ve seen it, the stats are there, they don’t lie. Man United are nowhere near good enough, they haven’t been good enough since he came in.”
That’s when he laid out his biggest criticism of Amorim. “He has made the club even worse.”

While his team’s inconsistent performances were certainly a concern, the alleged internal skirmishes at Old Trafford were also an issue.
Amorim appeared to become increasingly hostile during press conferences, which was due to his alleged ‘growing tension’ with Wilcox.
With Darren Fletcher taking charge of the team, he can hopefully build some consistency, starting with a win against Burley on Wednesday.
