Big. Important. SkiWelt. SKiWelt Wilder Kaiser Brixental consists of the nine charming mountain villages of Brixen im Thale, Ellmau, Going, Hopfgarten, Itter, Scheffau, Söll, Westendorf and Kirchberg. Together they form one of the largest and most modern ski areas in Austria.

275 kilometers of skiing fun – for all levels

SkiWelt offers 275 kilometers of slopes and an impressive network of 81 lifts that effectively connect the villages and mountain peaks. We stayed in the cozy mountain village of Ellmau, but from there you can reach all nine mentioned mountain villages via the ski system.

Skiwelt is suitable for both beginners and experienced skiers. There is something for everyone, even though most slopes are blue or red. The largest in Austria is also located here night skiing with 10 km of floodlit slopes after dark, for those who want to maximize their skiing.

A sustainable winter experience

SkiWelt is not only one of the largest ski areas, but also one of the most sustainable in the world. The entire area is powered by 100 percent green electricity from Tyrolean hydropower and several elevators have their own solar installations. A winter holiday with a clear conscience – and just as much skiing fun.

Children’s paradise in Söll

In SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental, Söll is the children’s favorite. Something has really been done here so that the children not only get a fantastic skiing holiday, but also fantastic memories for life. You will probably never forget a trip to Söll. Here the children can go on an adventure with the witches who live in Söll. For example, they invite you for magical brews on the ski slope and magic, where all children, big and small, can mix their own witch’s brew and go on a treasure hunt.

They have really created an exciting and adventurous world for children who want to experience something special during their ski holiday. The cable car from Söll to the ski area is even called “Hexenwasser”, which fits perfectly into the upcoming adventure.

When you reach the top, you will be greeted by a child-friendly ski area, where the witch invites you for a story time in her house, you can go ice skating, tobogganing or take a snow carousel. A perfect break while skiing, or perhaps before learning to ski.

Local dining experiences all year round

About every 3.5 kilometers a cozy, family-run alpine hut awaits, perfect for a break with traditional Tyrolean dishes or international favorites in the sun. Or have a wonderful afterski on the ski slope or in one of the villages next to the slopes.

In winter you can choose from more than 80 cozy huts and restaurants on the slopes. Here, regional products are combined with Tyrolean hospitality and you can dine with a view of 70 Alpine peaks, including the mighty Wilder Kaiser. SkiWelt is also known for its large sun terraces and friendly hospitality.

Top restaurant Hohe Salve – Alpine view with panoramic view

Enjoy a nice lunch at Restaurant at the top of the Hohe Salve. It is located on top of the Hohe Salve mountain which is 1829 meters high and has fantastic panoramic views of the Alps.

When you enter the restaurant there are two sections. Or you can buy your food at a simpler restaurant for half. Or you can choose the larger restaurant area with an à la carte menu. Here you have the option to sit outside on the revolving terrace; it rotates slowly so you can see the view while eating.

The terrace turns slowly, slowly, and in just under an hour you will have completed one lap. You hardly notice that it is turning, but it is cool that you get the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful view from different directions while enjoying a good Austrian lunch.

Classic Austrian dishes such as Wienerschnitzel, Austrian sausage, fried cheese and much more are served here. They also had a children’s menu, desserts and in honor of the day we were there, they also hosted a wine tasting on site. But it was fully booked.

Even when you go to the toilet, the view is unique! Not many toilets can boast this beautiful view of the mountain peaks and ski slopes!

Skiing from the K8 slope

Once you reach the top of the Hohe Salve, take the famous K8 descent to Söll. At 8 km it is the longest slope in SkiWelt. It is a red, beautiful slope, for those who like to climb a long hill.

Restaurant d’Schupf in Ellmau

d’Schupf is a popular bar and restaurant with a relaxed and modern Tyrolean style in the middle of Ellmau. You can come here for a nice after-ski after a whole day on the ski slopes, as well as for a nice lunch or dinner.

They offer everything here, food, drinks and a cozy atmosphere both inside and on the large sunny terrace. Here you can eat a good schnitzel, spare ribs, Austrian sausages or why not chili shrimp marinated in garlic.

Climb the climbing wall

After a day of skiing it might be nice to challenge yourself in other ways. In Ellmau near Kaiser Bad they had a large climbing center where you could take climbing lessons. The boys got to try climbing one afternoon and really enjoyed it.

Snowy winter walk with llamas

A different but very pleasant and fun experience was walking with llamas. It was an extraordinary experience and actually a lot of fun. Our first thought was that they might spit on us, but llamas only spit when they get angry. Luckily they didn’t get mad at us.

You can do the winter walk with llamas in Koglhof, located in the romantic Kaiserbergen in Ellmau in Tyrol at an altitude of 850 meters. The farm was built in 1615 and has been owned by the Oberhofer family since 1942. Llama trekking is a peaceful and relaxing way to experience the mountains and nature, along trails adapted for llamas.

Whether you come with the whole family, alone or with a small group, the llama trek can be booked individually. The llama tour leads directly from the mountain farm to the romantic winter landscape of the Wild Kaiser. Everyone gets the chance to lead a llama – a very special experience for all animal lovers. For those who are interested, there is also the opportunity to buy homemade products from wool. Suitable for families with children from 5 years old.

Stay here

Das Kaiserblick is a 4-star superior hotel in Ellmau, from where you have a fantastic view of the Wilder Kaiser Mountains. From the hotel you can easily take the ski bus to the ski slope.

Res hit

We flew into Munich and then booked a transfer with Four Season from the airport to the hotel. The journey from Munich to Ellmau took about 1.5 hours. Then we flew home from Salzburg and also took a transfer with Four Season to the airport.
