Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate
Winter may not officially start until December 21 on the Northern Hemisphere calendar, but avid skiers know it starts in November, when the chairlifts come back to life and fresh powder rolls out. As the mountains come to life, the market also comes to life.
Here are six standout ski resorts around the world to consider before the slopes (and the bidding) get busy.
Moroder design
List price: $3.6 million
The Val Gardena ski area is located in the Puez-Odle Natural Park, part of the UNESCO-protected Dolomites, beneath some of Italy’s most legendary peaks. Taking pride of place is the unmistakable Sassolungo, a stone monolith that dominates the skyline above the meadows and villages of South Tyrol. In the first line of sight, a new three-storey chalet rises in Ortisei, the valley’s main town, renowned for its walkable center and quick access to Seceda, Rasciesa and the wide Alpe di Siusi plateau. The chalet sits high on the hill and has good views, with large glass and a rhythm of terraces and balconies designed for the spectacle. And the mountains are not just for admiring. Val Gardena offers an extensive ski area for all levels, with direct links to the famous Sella Ronda circuit for day-long laps of legendary terrain.
Slifer Smith & Frampton Real Estate
List price: $21.5 million
As Vail’s prices rise, many buyers are sliding into neighboring Bachelor Gulch, where costs decrease a bit and the skiing remains top-notch. But even here the top level is still rising. Case in point: a fully remastered retreat at 2584 Daybreak Ridge, listed at $21.5 million. The mountain home is a true ski-in/ski-out, with direct access to the Maverick slopes and the Bachelor Gulch-Beaver Creek-Arrowhead network. Floor-to-ceiling windows and wide decks frame the Gore Range drama and polished Alpine sunsets. Inside it is luxurious yet playful, with a large recreation room, a special spa, sauna, steam showers and a wine cellar. Outside, a newly finished infinity hot tub anchors an après patio with a fireplace and Trex decking.
FGP Switzerland and Alps
List price: $3.5 million
Crans-Montana earns its status as a quintessential Swiss ski destination with 300 days of sunshine, year-round lifts, 140 kilometers of pistes over 65 hectares, and a snow park and superpipe praised in French-speaking Romandy. The history here runs deep, yet the city keeps pace with modern lifestyles. Near the slopes and the center of the resort, a new luxury residence offers 24 apartments, aimed at maximum light and a beautiful view of the Valais Alps. Options range from two-room layouts of approximately 80 square meters to 5.5-room penthouses of almost 230 square meters, each with its own south-facing terrace. Buyers choose the finishes, with an in-house interior designer on call. Shared benefits round it out: on-site restaurants, a gym, wellness areas with steam bath and sauna, indoor and outdoor pools and dedicated work and conference rooms.
An hour’s drive from Montreal is Mont-Blanc and its ski slopes, while the region’s pristine lakes produce striking coastal homes.
Plenty of real estate
List price: $1.6 million
An hour north of Montreal, Valdurn Estates in Mont-Blanc covers 2,300 hectares of protected wilderness. Home to just 125 homes, it offers rare privacy, moderate growth and a real sense of space – neighbors are scarce. Not nature. On the shores of pristine Lac Cornu, a turnkey Hamptons-style retreat sits on 3.8 acres in Valdurn Estates with eastern white cedar shingles, Maibec planks, crisp white trim and soaring gables for the Laurentians’ east coast pedigree. A short walk leads to a private jetty and 100 meters of south-facing shoreline for long, sun-drenched afternoons. The community’s five lakes and more than 30 miles of dedicated trails invite running, hiking, cross-country skiing and off-beat snowshoeing. If you want to do laps on the lift, the Mont-Blanc and Mont-Tremblant ski areas are just a short drive away.
This Mountain Village mansion ticks all the boxes for Colorado: brickwork, ample recreational opportunities, and ski access right out your doorstep.
Telluride properties
List price: $20 million
Mountain architecture can seem a bit…predictably safe. Same wood, same stone. In Colorado, that formula is respect. Why steal the show from the Rockies? This Mountain Village retreat keeps a low profile outside. The exterior is clad in Telluride stone and weathered barn wood, blending into the rugged slope side. Step inside and that subtlety makes way for a statement. Walnut floors, Venetian plaster wall treatments, Jerusalem limestone surfaces. Clerestory trusses obscure the great hall and cinematically frame the San Sophia Range. The same goes for facilities. Three elevator-equipped floors contain a wine room, bar, infrared sauna, ski room and an oversized heated patio topped by a custom stone hot tub. Ski-in/ski-out is effortless thanks to a special easement at Lower Galloping Goose.
Located in Mountainside at Northstar, this 2020 build starts the ski day at the back door.

List price: $4 million
North star prides itself on its remote skiing experience, but the Northern California ski area has built a network of neighborhoods that balance community and seclusion. In one such enclave, Mountainside, lies this four-bedroom ski-in/ski-out residence with direct mountain access via a private pine forest leading to a dedicated trail. Folding doors open both sides of the living room, transforming the great room into a breeze of alpine air and framing dual vistas of Northstar and the Carson Range on the edge of the Sierra Nevadas. The home combines privacy with communal privileges: access to Mountainside’s fitness center, game room, yoga studio, hot tub, pool, and signature Treehouse retreat, a glass and wood perch for après gatherings.
