Sinner Drops Set in Atmane Win, reaches Beijing QFS

Jannik Sinner conquered a medium-sized fear against Terence Atmane in the China on Saturday, where he eventually broke the resistance of the French qualification to earn a 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 second round victory.

The Italian defeated Atmane with relative ease in the semi -final in Cincinnati last month, where the Frenchman had enjoyed a breakthrough run to the last four. However, the top seeds in Beijing was pushed much harder during the ATP 500 event.

After losing a tight first set, Atmane broke the Sinner’s three times in the second set to level, so that the world no. 2 was often brought with its depth and precision. Yet the 23-year-old was unable to allow only a sixth defeat of the season about Sinner, who increased his aggression in the decision maker to eventually continue after two hours and 22 minutes to his 13th consecutive Hardcourt quarterfinals.

“The game style he plays is quite unique and he is a lifty and we don’t have that much. He is a great, great player and has improved a lot since Cincinnati,” Sinner said. “Today he struggled a bit in the third set with some cramp, but it was a tough, difficult second round game. I was twice with a break in the second set and I couldn’t use it, but this is the sport and this happens. Maybe the concentration went a bit and a bit nerves, but I am very happy to be until the next round.”

The former champion of the Beijing Sinner defeated Marin Cilic in the opening round in his first game since he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open Final. The Italian gave the number 1 place in the PIF ATP ranking with his defeat against the Spaniard, but will strive for the same pace in his battle with rival Alcaraz for ATP at the end of the ATP at the end of the year 1 presented by PIF sub-divorces over the remaining months of the season. He follows the 22-year-old, who competes in Tokyo, with 2,540 points in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin.

Sinner has won his last 61 games on hard courts against players outside the top 10 and will hope to extend that run when he in the last eight World No. 57 met Fabian Marozsan. Marozsan defeated Alexandre Muller 6-3, 7-6 (5) to reach the quarterfinals.

Earlier Alex de Minaur collapses along Arthur Rinder Knech 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (2) to seal his place in the quarterfinals in Beijing. The Australian has achieved 33 hard profits this year and has now achieved 15 wins at ATP 500 events in 2025, with only Alcaraz (17) that earn more, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.

The Minaur, who won the title at the ATP 500 in Washington in July, is eighth in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin, which takes the final qualifying place. The 26-year-old strives to be eligible for the Nitto ATP final for the second consecutive year. Then in Beijing he will meet the seventh seed Jakub Mensik or Frenchman Arthur Cazaux.
