Shohei Ohtani wants to pitch in relief for Dodgers in World Series

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani had far from his best performance during Game 4 of the World Series.

Just 17 hours after going 4-for-4 with two home runs, two doubles and five walks, Ohtani had the monumental task of being the starting pitcher for Game 4.

The result was a very human four earned runs over six innings, while striking out six and allowing one walk. He also had an 0-for-3 night at the plate with two strikeouts. Ohtani revealed after the game that his pitching performance didn’t stop him from wanting another shot at the World Series, despite not being scheduled to start Games 5 or 6 (or 7, if necessary).

The superstar made his intentions known by being available out of the bullpen.

“Of course, I would like to prepare to be available for every game in case I am needed,” Ohtani said in Japanese.

Despite the 18-inning thriller that Ohtani was a big part of, there was no doubt that fatigue could be an issue. According to the Dylan Hernandez of LA Times, Ohtani was seen sweating profusely and possibly dehydrated in the dugout.

However, the last person who would apologize for his actions is Ohtani.

“I’m not going to say yesterday’s game was this or that,” he said.

The last time Ohtani pitched in the postseason, he showed why he is valued the way he is by striking out ten batters in six scoreless innings. At the plate, he had just a casual 3-for-3 night with three home runs, one of which went far enough to earn a plaque in the Dodger Stadium pavilion.

With the series now tied at 2-2, left-hander Blake Snell will take the mound following a five-earned run performance in Game 1 of the World Series. Both pitchers will do everything they can to redeem themselves after previous mistakes in the Fall Classic. Maybe go to sleep at 2am after you reach base nine times and throw the next day, that will happen to you.
