Sheffield Wednesday are in the final stages of a deal to sign Zain Silcott-Duberry, it has been reported The star.
Earlier this month, Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen confirmed that the club were exploring a deal to sign former Chelsea, Bournemouth and Olympiacos youngster Zain Silcott-Duberry.
20-year-old attacking player Silcott-Duberry has been training with Sheffield Wednesday and The Star now reports that SWFC are in the final stages of a deal to sign the player, pending ‘EFL ratification’.
Silcott-Duberry was released by Greek giants Olympiacos ahead of the deadline at the start of the month. He becomes the eighth player so far to sign for SWFC in 2026.
Who has Sheffield Wednesday signed so far in 2026?
Pedersen and Sheffield Wednesday entered the January transfer window with just two loan spots available to sign players. Ultimately, SWFC managed to sign six new players, with Barry Bannan joining Millwall and Bailey Cadamarteri moving to Wrexham.
Marvelous Nakamba was the only player to sign on a permanent deal, joining from Luton Town until the summer. Meanwhile, Jaden Heskey, Murphy Cooper, Joel Ndala, Jerry Yates and Tayo Adaramola all arrived on loan.
Championship news
Last week, Sheffield Wednesday signed Seny Dieng on loan from Middlesbrough due to an injury to Cooper, with Dieng becoming the seventh player to feature in goal for SWFC so far in 2025/26, while Pierce Charles was still sidelined with a shoulder injury.
What does Zain Silcott-Duberry bring to Sheffield Wednesday?
Little is known about the player, as he never actually played football in England and also played little in Greece.
He made one Premier League appearance for Bournemouth in the 2024/25 season and has only played for Olympiacos B. But more importantly for Pedersen, Silcott-Duberry will bring depth.
And the fact that he was on Chelsea’s books for eight years and then picked up by two big teams in Bournemouth and Olympiakos suggests that he is a player who has shown great signs of potential in the past, even if he was let go by both teams.
But Silcott-Duberry will then arrive at SWFC with a huge point to prove in the final thirteen games of the season and nothing to lose after Sheffield Wednesday were relegated from the Championship this weekend following their derby day defeat to Sheffield United.
Pedersen could use Silcott-Duberry more than some of his loan players, knowing there is a clear opportunity to sign the player on a longer-term deal in the summer, assuming Silcott-Duberry gets a short-term deal while the takeover of Sheffield Wednesday goes ahead.
