Lieutenant Colonel Ghatage Aditya Shrikumar of 21 Para (Special Forces) received the gallantry honor for planning and personally leading the precision strike, which resulted in the destruction of a fortified militant camp.
According to the citation, the operation led to the elimination of nine armed cadres, including senior leaders of a notorious anti-national group, with the military citing its exemplary leadership and tactical brilliance during the mission.
Media reports around the same time last year had said that the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent), or Ulfa (I), which is involved in a secessionist movement against India, claimed that three of its top leaders had been killed and several others injured in drone and missile strikes in Myanmar’s Sagaing region.
At the time, the outfit claimed that its mobile camps were being targeted by the Indian army. The army, however, denied any role in the attacks, while Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state police were not involved in any such operation.
