Passengers were thrown out of a bus during a crash on a South African highway, in which at least 12 people were killed and 45 were injured, according to emergency services.
Johannesburg -Needless personnel tried to lift the bus back on its wheels on Tuesday to see if more victims were trapped underneath, said William Nthladi, a spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Emergency Management of the city.
“On arrival we found patients who are on the road,” said Mr. Nthladi.
The bodies of some victims were on the highway near the bus and were covered with silver blankets.
Two bodies were still trapped in the wreck, Mr Nthladi said.
Handbags, a lunch box and a water bottle were visible between the assets.

“We are lost for words. This is a disaster,” said Andile Mngwevu, a local city councilor who went to the stage.
“It is pretty sad to see so many bodies, and the city really feels for the families who had expected them to see their loved ones return home later today.
“Our hearts are now extremely heavy.”
The early morning crash took place on a highway near the most important or Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.
The bus left on his side at the edge of the highway.
It had transported people from the municipality of Katlehong, east of Johannesburg, said civil servants.
Mr. Nthladi said that paramedics declared 12 people dead at the crash site.
Mr. Nthladi said he could not provide exact details about the injuries to the other passengers, but said they varied from serious to critical.
The driver was one of those who were taken to the hospital.
No other vehicle was involved in the crash and officials could not yet determine the cause.
