Princess Stella was purchased by Richard Poillucci for $140,000 at the Lexington Select Sale and, after a stint with two other trainers, is now in the care of Noble.
“When I first got her, I thought I had a lot to work with. She had a few little issues and I thought if I got her squared up, she had some positives. I put her on my training program. It took her a few weeks to come around because she was a little stuck. She seems to have turned the corner in that area and she has been spectacular,” Noble said.
She says Princess Stella is typical of Captaintreacherous’ tribe.
“I think so. You have to make her think it’s her idea. If you ask her for too much or change, she won’t respond well and will pout at you.”
Since being in Noble’s barn, she has won five of her six starts.
“I don’t think I’ve seen the bottom of her yet. She’s had some really bad miles the last few weeks. It was cold, one night it was raining and snowing. She doesn’t seem to be getting tired at all and seems to be getting better.”
Princess Stella’s best life rating is 1-51.3 (H).
PRINCESS STELLA REPEAT
“If I get her to a big track, she’ll definitely improve that mark as long as she stays healthy and healthy. We’re going to race her a few more times and Rich (Richard Poillucci) and I will let her tell us if she needs some time off. We’ll take her out for a while and bring her back as a four-year-old. He (Poillucci) isn’t really in the breeding business, but she’ll be four in a few weeks and I think she has the ability to be an open mare here.”
Shartin N was a unique mare who won 46 of her 68 starts and earned $2.7 million.
“I remember her mother racing. She was incredible.”
When she ran 1-46.4 on Hambletonian Day, it was a world record that still stands.
SHARTIN N WORLD RECORD REPEAT
In 2019, she was named US Horse of the Year, the first gaited mare of any age to receive this honor.
She dominated her lineage for two seasons, winning 19 of 24 starts in 2018 and earning more than $1 million, a record for a pacing mare in a single season.
The following season she won 15 of her 19 starts, recorded her world record time and was named US Horse of the Year.
Her major wins include multiple editions of the Breeders Crown, Blue Chip Matchmaker Series, Lady Liberty and Roses Are Red Stakes.
Earlier this year, Shartin N was inducted into the US Harness Racing Hall of Fame’s Living Horse Hall of Fame in recognition of her astonishing career.
