One of the final steps in the New Zealand Cup Week plan will be completed in Winton on Friday.
Tyler Dewe put himself on the map as a running trainer when Teddy Baker won the South of the Waitaki event on Show Day in Addington in 2022.
Now Dewe is looking forward to another win in the popular feature event with his stable star Share A Dream (Art major).
Share A Dream brings the best form to Winton after finishing second behind the talented Dreams Are Free in the Tuapeka Cup for driver Mark Hurrell last weekend.
Hurrell steps back into Friday’s event with a 45-56 rating and admits his offense will have to withstand all kinds of blows.
But there is one caveat.
“If you look at it on paper, he should actually win such a race.”
“But as everyone knows, he has to be driven once, so there is always a chance that he will be unlucky.”
“If the pace is real enough and he sees daylight, he will be able to run better than most.”
“He’s just so fast, he just needs a little bit in his favor to be hard to beat.”
The move from Ascot Park to the larger Winton circuit appears to be a plus for Share A Dream given its racing style.
“Two of his three wins have come at Winton and he has been training there, it seems to suit him,” Hurrell said.
Share A Dream comes into Friday’s race (6.22pm) having ticked an important box for the 2600m south of the Waitaki.
Before finishing behind Dreams Are Free in the 2700m, the Addington pacer continued to run over the 2600m in solid time.
Hurrell will again team up with trainer Darren Keast after the pair were in winning form on Tuapeka Cup Day.
Although she has pulled the outside of the second row for over a mile, Seaside Fury looks like a great opportunity for the trainer-driver combination.
“She won a workout and even though they only lasted a decent amount of time, she felt comfortable.”
“I know Darren has had some time for her.”
“She should have a good chance, it will just depend on her fitness as she missed training last weekend with the bad weather.”
“Darren would have put a bit more work into her, it will just depend on whether she peaks while running or not.”
“She seems to have the ability to have a good chance of winning.”
Hurrell also works with Rakero Lightning at Winton.
The mare is given the opportunity to improve her form in a field where she has to be competitive and give her best.
