West Indian wicketkeeper Shai Hope stunned everyone with a sharp one-handed catch in the slip cordon as Sai Sudharsan rounded a ball from West Indian skipper Roston Chase. West Indies have something to celebrate early on Day 5.
India have dominated the West Indies in the two-match Test series, winning the first match in Ahmedabad and are now close to victory in the second Test in New Delhi. However, unlike the previous match, India could not win the match by one innings.
Watch: Sai Sudharsan’s sharp edge is caught in the slip by Shai Hope
As India chases the second innings total of 121, the majority of the scoring was done on Day 4 with just 58 runs needed on the final day. India looked determined to wrap things up within the first hour of the matchday, which is why KL Rahul has taken charge with his long handles.
Your daily dose of cricket!
However, the West Indian skipper gave them some premature joy as he dismissed Sai Sudharsan for 39 runs in the 29th over of the match. The ball was thrown nicely onto the stump; Sudharsan was lured down the bowler’s length for a big drive, but he dived and turned sharply, took the edge of the bat and flew to the right of first slip.
Standing at first slip, Shai Hope showed his cat-like reflexes and took a sharp one-handed catch to send the India no. 3 back to the pavilion.

KL Rahul with the winning runs seals India a clean sweep against West Indies
An unbeaten half-century and KL Rahul sealed it for India despite the dismissals of Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill this morning. The two centurions and the half centurion from the previous innings were dismissed in search of quick runs, but Rahul again delivers with his composure.
India sealed the series 2-0 and have now added 12 very vital points to their WTC campaign tally. This would take the Indian side above the Sri Lankan side to the second position in the WTC points table.
India is off to a strong start domestically for the first time under Gautam Gambhir’s rule; these are good signs before they take on South Africa for the three-match Test series to be held in the November-December period.
Roston Chase is the second West Indian with the most daunting record
Despite all his efforts with both bat and ball, Roston Chase could only lead his team to a second-best position in the series. The West Indian batters, especially Shai Hope and Justin Greaves, showed remarkable grit, which helped them post a goal after a follow-on in the first innings.
However, Roston Chase has reached an unwanted milestone in his Test career. The West Indian skipper became the second West Indian captain, after former skipper Kraigg Brathwaite, to lose all five of the first five Tests in charge of international cricket.
