West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales has been fined 25% of his match fee and given one demerit point by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for hitting Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal with a delivery during the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The incident took place on Day 1 when Seales fielded the ball in his follow-through and threw it to Jaiswal, hitting him on the pads.
The left-hander was well inside his crease at the time, prompting immediate concern from the Indian dressing room.
According to the ICC, Seales breached Article 2.9 of its Code of Conduct, which deals with throwing a ball in an “inappropriate and/or dangerous manner” during an international match.
Match referee Andy Pycroft viewed the footage and concluded that the throw was unnecessary and unsafe.
Seales argued that he was attempting a run-out, but the referee disagreed after checking replays from multiple angles. The 24-year-old was therefore given a formal reprimand and a 25% fine on his match fee.
On-field referees Richard Illingworth and Paul Reiffel, along with TV referee Alex Wharf and fourth referee KN Ananthapadmanabhan, reported the incident.
The ICC noted that it was a level 1 offence, which could result in a fine of up to 50% of the match fee and a maximum of two penalty points.
This is Seales’ second violation in two years, bringing his total to two penalty points. His previous one came during a Test against Bangladesh in December 2024.
Meanwhile, on the field, India continues to dominate the Test after posting 518/5 in the first innings. Kuldeep Yadav picked a five-wicket haul to bowl out the visitors for 248 before India forced the follow-on.
