Series preview: Milwaukee Brewers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

7 minutes, 30 seconds Read

The Milwaukee Bewers are set to close their seven-game homestysis with a four-game set against the Arizona Diamondbacks this week. Milwaukee dropped two consecutive series because they have cooled a little from their 14 game win-streak to start Augustus, although they stay five games in the Cubs in the NL Central. The D-Backs, sellers at the deadline, even though they have been removed from a World Series performance for less than two years, are at 64-67 in the season, 5.5 games behind the Mets for the last NL Wild Card place.

The injured list of Milwaukee contains a few well -known names from the attack, while Jackson Chouio, Rhys Hoskins, Garrett Mitchell and Joey Ortiz are all suspended. Mitchell is out for the season, while the other three bats should be back in the coming weeks, with Chouio and Hoskins first. On the hill, Lefty Robert Gasser is approaching a return from Tommy John operation while rehabilitation in the minors, while Relie Rob Zastryzny could also return quickly. Rookies Logan Henderson and Connor Thomas can be done for the year, while DL Hall strives for a return from the mid -September of a sloping tribe.

The injured list of D-Backs is completely pitchers, with Righties Ryan Thompson, Justin Martinez, former friend Corbin Burnnes, Anthony Desclafani, Cristian Mena, Christian Montes de Oca and Kevin Ginkel. Desclafani and Thompson are the only ones who will probably return this year, because the pitching staff has taken a beating. The same applies to Lefties Tommy Henry, Blake Walston and AJ Puk, who are also out for the year. Au.

Christian Yelich determines the pace for Milwaukee’s attack with 26 gays, while Brice Turang has had a great month of August to stimulate his seasonal line to .286/.351/.426 with 14 homers. William Contreras and Sal Frelick have also been solid lately, while Andrew Vaughn has cooled a bit after a hot start of his time in Milwaukee. Rookies Isaac Collins and Caleb Durbin, as well as Jake Bauers, Blake Perkins, Andraw Monasterio, Danny Jansen, Anthony Seigler and Brandon Lockridge, complete the attacking group. As a team, the brewers .257/.332/.404 (.736 OPS is on 11th) with 138 Homers (19th), 666 runs (second) and 139 Steals (second).

After Eugenio Suárez was taken away in the deadline, Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte are the only big names that are still on the D-backs selection. Lourdes Gurriel, Geraldo Perdomo, Alek Thomas, Pavin Smith, Adrian del Castillo, Jake McCarthy, Blaze Alexander, James McCann and Ildemaro Vargas rounded the tribes for Arizona for Arizona. As a team, the Diamondbacks .250/.325/.439 (.764 OPS is in third place) with 182 homers (fifth), 645 runs (sixth) and 96 Steals (15th).

Abner Uribe’s 1.73 ERA and 62 performances are the pace for Milwaukee’s Bullpen, with poet Trevor Megill with a few bloated rescues against the Giants at the weekend when his ERA rose to 2.54 for the year. Jared Koenig, Nick Mears and Aaron Ashby have also been solid, while Grant Anderson has sometimes had opportunities this year. Shelby Miller, the former D-back, has also been a solid addition. As a team, the Brewers have an ERA of 3.57 teams (third), including a 3.40 starter era (second) and a 3.80 bull pen era (10th). They have selected 1,143 batters (sixth) over 1,166 2/3 innings.

The Bullpen van Arizona is exhausted between injuries and trade theadline movements, because Jalen Beeks is now leading the team this year with 50 performances, although his 3.99 ERA is not ideal. Juan Morillo adds 37 performances, while Kyle Backhus, former brewer John Curtiss, Andrew Saalfrank, Jake Woodford, Juan Burgos and Bryce Jarvis are finished. As staff, the D-Backs have an ERA of 4.52 team (25th), including a 4.35 starter era (20th) and a 4.79 Bullpen era (26th). They have set out 1,047 batters (21st) on 1,167 innings.

Monday, August 25 @ 6:40 pm: Brandon Woodruff (2.47 ERA, 3.50 FIP) vs. Eduardo Rodríguez (5.40 ERA, 4.69 FIP)

Woodruff, who had to deal with some “gastrointestinal problems” prior to his last start against the Cubs, comes from his worst start of the year, because he only went 4 1/3 innings with three runs allowed, although he hit six. For the season, Woodruff 4-1 is with a 2.47 ERA, 3.50 FIP and 55 strikeouts over 43 2/3 innings through eight starts. In seven career performances (six starts) against the D-backs, Woodruff 2-1 is with a 4.28 ERA and 41 strikeouts over 33 2/3 innings.

Rodríguez, in his second season with the D-backs after signing a large four-year-old, $ 80 million deal with them, struggled in his time with Arizona. More than 32 starts between 2024 and 2025, he is 8-11 with a 5.29 ERA, 4.65 FIP and 162 strikeouts over 166 2/3 innings. He has been particularly bad this year, with a 5-7 record, 5.40 ERA, 4.69 FIP and 115 strikeouts over 116 2/3 innings. He allowed four runs more than 6 2/3 innings with four strikeouts against the Guardians his last time -out. The 10-year-old veteran has made three career-starts against Milwaukee, with an ERA of 2.60 and 15 strikeouts over 17 1/3 innings, although he has a 0-2 record.

Tuesday 26 August @ 6:40 pm: Jacob Misiorowski (4.19 ERA, 3.24 FIP) vs. Brandon Pfaadt (4.95 ERA, 4.35 FIP)

The Miz, who started with a red -hot start when he debuted in June, struggled in his two trips since he returned from the IL. Against the Reds and Cubs, he has only allowed a total of 5 1/3 innings on 132 throws with eight strikeouts, only eight points. For the season he has a 4.19 ERA, 3.24 FIP and 55 strikeouts over 38 2/3 innings. This is his first career start against Arizona.

Pfaadt, 26, is in his third season with the D-Backs after debuting in 2024. The former fifth round Pick consistently has a FIP lower than its era, with a career fip of 4.22 compared to a 5.02 ERA. That trend remains true in 2025, because it is 12-8 with a 4.95 ERA, 4.35 FIP and 113 strikeouts over 140 innings. He went seven strong innings against the Guardians his last time -out, allowing two points out of five hits and a walk with five strikeouts. He has made two career-starts against Milwaukee, with a 1-1 record, 9.35 ERA and 12 strikeouts over 8 2/3 innings.

Wednesday 27 August @ 6:40 pm: Quinn Priester (3.44 ERA, 4.36 FIP) vs. Ryne Nelson (3.63 ERA, 3.68 FIP)

Priest, who looked great for a large part of the season, did not look so sharp, although the Brewers still succeeded in winning every game in which he has been thrown since the end of May. The 24-year-old Righty has an ERA of 3.44, 4.36 FIP and 104 Strikeouts this season this season. He went 4 1/3 innings with four strikeouts and one point allowed three hits and five walks against the Cubs his last time out. His only appearance against Arizona came with the Pirates in 2024, when he allowed five runs and threw two over four innings of work into relief in what turned out to be his last performance before being traded to Boston.

Nelson, 27, is in his fourth season with Arizona after debuting in 2022. The former second round Pick enjoys his best season so far with a 3.63 ERA, 3.68 FIP and 105 Strikeouts over 119 innings in 27 performances (17 Starts) this year. He went six frames against the Reds in his last start, allowing three runs with six strikeouts in a victory of extra innings. Nelson has made two career performances (one start) against Milwaukee, including a three-after exemption earlier this year. In total he allowed four runs and made nine more than eight innings (4.50 ERA).

Thursday 28 August @ 1:10 pm: Jose Quintana (3.32 ERA, 4.77 FIP) vs. Nabil Crismert (1.00 ERA, 2.45 FIP)

Quintana, 36, has been great this season to allow Baserunners to reach, but to love the scoreboard. Due to 20 starting this year, he is 10-4 with a 3.32 ERA, 4.77 FIP and 75 strikeouts over 111 innings. On Friday evening, he went 5 1/3 of solid innings against San Francisco, which meant two points on two hits (both homers) and two free walks with two strikeouts. He made eight career starters against Arizona, including his Brewers debut in April, when he worked seven scoreless innings in a winning effort. Before his career, he is 1-2 with an ERA of 6.13 and 30 strikeouts over 39 2/3 innings against the D-backs.

Crismatt, 30, was signed by the D-Backs after the Phillies had released him on the Trade Deadline. He spent most of the season in Triple-A with Philadelphia, a total of 20 starts with a 3.96 ERA and 70 strikeouts over 102 1/3 innings. In two performances (one start) with the D-backs he is 1-0 with one point allowed and nine strikeouts over nine innings (1.00 ERA) against the Rockies and Reds. The former Cardinal, Padre and Dodger have made six career appearances (all in relief) against Milwaukee, with a 4.82 ERA and six strikeouts over 9 1/3 innings.

The Bewers want to jump back from a few disappointing series, and given the state of the schedule of Arizona, this is their chance to do that. I take Milwaukee to win three out of four and finish the homing position at 4-3.
