Serie A club are ready to make a January bid to sign Liverpool’s Joe Gomez

One club who have previously shown an interest in Joe Gomez are looking to sign him in January, but Liverpool may be reluctant to sell the much-needed defender.

Joe Gomez has spent ten years of his playing career at Anfield, but it looked like he could finally part ways with Liverpool in the summer.

AC Milan, Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace were all interested in the centre-back, but no move was made.

If Crystal Palace had wanted to sell Marc Guehi to Liverpool, Gomez’s departure would have been more likely. However, that deal fell through at the last minute, meaning Arne Slot’s team would not have had the necessary squad depth if they parted ways with the 28-year-old.

There is still optimism among some clubs that Gomez will be available again, especially as his contract expires in the summer of 2027, which is less than two years away.

Of these, AC Milan have emerged as favorites to secure Gomez’s signature as they have reignited their interest in the Liverpool star.

Italian publication Corriere dello Sport – via Sports witness have reported that “an attack is coming” from the Serie A giants regarding the signing of Gomez.

The club’s sporting director, Igli Tare, wants to get things done quickly to avoid last-minute deals falling through. As a result, Milan are likely to contact Liverpool soon to discuss a possible deal for the Englishman.

Gomez himself is said to have had positive talks with the Italian team in the past, so he could still be interested in a move.

The opportunity to play more first-team football is certainly an attractive incentive, with the defender making just four Premier League appearances so far this season.

He may also be motivated to go one step further thanks to Fikayo Tomori, who has had a great time at Milan since swapping the Premier League for Serie A four years ago.

However, Liverpool do not have many available centre-backs. Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate may be the obvious starters, but Gomez will be called in if either of the defensive duo suffers an injury.

Therefore, AC Milan may have to be patient and wait until next summer to sign Gomez unless Liveprool replenishes their backline in January.
