Sergio Pettis defeated Magomed Magomedov with an astonishing spinning back elbow at 4:31 of Round 2 during their PFL Champions Series 2 card in Dubai on October 3.
Pettis appeared Bowks talkand when asked if he was still on cloud nine in the days following the incredible comeback finish, Pettis stated [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“Oh yeah, for sure man. I still feel the adrenaline. I watched that highlight film every day, so [laughs]. An unhealthy amount of times I’ve watched that video. But I’m just happy to be home. I was away from my child and my wife. I just had a baby five weeks ago. That’s how it was; yes, hard to be away from my newborn baby.
Sergio Pettis: “I knew I was in for something big”
Referring to an Instagram post that the first Bellator MMA champion had posted, it captured many of the feelings regarding the highest highs and lowest lows that define this sport. Pettis said that while his story isn’t perfect, he is demonstrably capable of working harder and harder to generate these types of results when things are looking down.
When asked if this was a major emotional release for him and to what extent Magomedov’s largely dominant performance before the finish represented a microcosm of the highs and lows he had experienced throughout his MMA journey, Sergio Pettis said: [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“Oh, definitely. This was a big challenge for me. My last fight, I didn’t like my performance. I fought one of my good friends, Raufeon Stots, and it was just so weird to be playing against one of my former teammates for seven years and just a good friend of mine in general. So with this guy, you know, I definitely wanted to come out here and show the world what I’m capable of.”
“Just a testament to my career. I’ve had the ups and downs and just the adversity that I faced early in my career and where I am now. I’ve fought some tough guys throughout my career. So with this one, I knew I was ready for something big. I could just feel it. It was just something that was in my soul that I was going to hurt this man and do it in a devastating way, and man, it got reality. That really happened.”
