Sergio Hudson shouts ‘white adjacent’ among black celebrities during fashion week

The comments that went viral went on a follow -up of the designer.

Designer Sergio Hudson criticized black celebrities on New York Fashion Week for not supporting black designers.

Hudson, who showed his spring/summer 2026 collection in NYFW, ignited a viral conversation on September 15 after he went to Instagram to call the absence of black A-Listers in his show, despite their presence with many non-black fashion houses.

“My answer to why some black A-Listers did not come to my show, although they were here … White adjacent adjacent is a great drug,” wrote Hudson, as if captured daily through the YBF. “I pray that my brothers and sisters heal one day.”

Hudson’s daring comments received mixed reactions.

“People say that people don’t know who he is … wild,” wrote a user. “He is a power, and they know for sure. He is right because last year black influencers complained about no invitations for ‘other’ shows. Explanatory that they would not go, etc … Yet they will not show up a black man who is included and invited you.”

Some accused Hudson of Hypocrisis, pointing to the domination of white models on his website and runway, as well as the difficulty to secure a place on NYFW, regardless of the background of a designer.

‘Sergio has talked about this since he came out. He said black (sic) Celebs did not wear his clothes, so I ask him when his models on his website don’t look like the women he wanted to dress in Hollywood, and he apologized about why he didn’t have black models, “said a critic.” It seems that he also plays that game. He is amazingly talented, but it is like the pot that calls the kettle. “

“I tried to go to his show as someone who is a stylist and personal shopper, and like a POC, and I was refused by his team. So they have to do better,” someone else added.

While Hudson received support from Love Island Star Oandria, who modeled in his show, his Instagram remarks about “White Adecency” attracted the most attention in the regular way, so that he clarified his comments in a follow-up post.

“Hey everyone, I just want to erase the sky a little after a simple story that I have posted, seems to have become viral. Let me be clear – I am not upset, pain or complaining,” Hudson written. “My show was well attended by people who love me and our brand – industrial professionals, celebrities, my great customers and the press all showed up to support.”

Hudson, who dressed Beyoncé, Michelle Obama and Rihanna, continued. “With the New York Fashion Week that was so full, people kept asking why certain individuals attend some shows, but not ours or other shows of black designers. To be honest, the only answer I can give that some people, perhaps consciously or unconscious, believe that white adjacent borders are more relevant.

Black celebrities during this year’s NYFW include Wendy Williams and Lil Kim in the show of Laquan Smith, as well as Usher, Mary J. Blige, Jordan Chiles, Lauryn Hill and Saweetie.
