Serena Williams’ former coach makes an important statement about Victoria Mboko

Serena Williams’ former coach Patrick Mouratoglou says Victoria Mboko has ‘the whole package’ and has declared the 19-year-old ‘the future of tennis’.

Mboko, who celebrated her 19th birthday in August, won the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal as a wildcard and also finished the year with a career-high ranking of No. 18.

But before Mboko put together a sensational run in Montreal, she started the 2025 season competing in the ITF tournaments, winning five titles in the first three months of the year.

After winning five ITF titles and becoming WTA champion in Montreal, the Canadian went through a difficult period and lost four consecutive matches. However, she still ended her breakout season on a high after winning a WTA 250 tournament in Hong Kong.

Now Mouratoglou, who coached Williams for a decade, believes Mboko is ready for even bigger things.

Mouratoglou: Mboko has killed it this year… She is definitely the future of tennis

“I’ll start with Victoria Mboko. She’s Canadian, she had an incredible season. She fell out of the top 100. She survived this year. She won a Masters 1000. Then she had some downs because the pressure suddenly became too much. She came like a bomb into the tennis world and the WTA world. The quality of her game, her physical qualities, her personality. I mean, she has the whole package, and she is absolutely the future of tennis. I am I’m super happy to see her coming up so quickly,” Mouratoglou explains.

Going into the US Open, Mboko did not hide her intention to become a Grand Slam champion at Flushing Meadows and sounded very confident in her chances. But it didn’t happen after the Canadian lost to Barbora Krejcikova in the first round.

When Mboko kicks off her Australian Open campaign in January, she will make her debut at Melbourne Park.
