Scholastic Field Hockey has its share in competition matches, intersectional matchups and the rumble that it is in the late season.
But sprinkled throughout the country are single elimination tournaments of different lengths in the season. These FA Cup-type tournaments contain rivalry, unanswered questions and games that always seem to go to the last minute with the result in a balance. Some of the best games you will see are in these tournaments in the season.
After all, the United States season starts – something else? -A tournament in-season, the Apple Tournament in Louisville, Ky.
All are prestigious in their own way. They also let teams try different tactics and ways to play in a pressure of a single elimination.
However, entering the structure of this year are two tournaments about 3000 miles apart. One is the West Coast Classic, a tournament with teams from the Cif San Diego section and guest teams from other parts of the country, such as the San Francisco Bay Area. It is a two-day tournament with two games a day, and this year it was San Diego Scripps Ranch (California) and won the title match 2-1 about the host, San Diego Torrey Pines (California).
A long -awaited tournament will take place later this year. It is a tournament organized by eight field hockey teams in the southern half of New Jersey, and runs parallel with the long -term tournaments of South Jersey coaches who have been played by football teams of both sexes for decades.
We are not exactly sure of the schedule or the matchwindows for this tournament, but we think it will take some open dates between the closing date for the qualification of the State Tournament on 25 October and the first round of the State Tournament on 3 November.
For many in the birthplace of Scholastic Field Hockey in America, the tournament represents an “It’s Agnight Time” moment. I think Bess Taylor would approve it.
