Sean O’Malley believes Petr Yan should not repeat it with Merab Dvalishvili immediately after returning to the octagon following lower back surgery.
Yan vs. Dvalishvili 3 is expected to take place later this year, but this highly anticipated title rematch to complete their trilogy will not be part of the UFC White House Card.
Dvalishvili lost his title to Yan last year at UFC 323. However, since he is an active champion, the UFC has promised the Georgian fighter a title rematch when he is ready.
While ‘The Machine’ is back in the gym, Yan recently underwent surgery on his lower back and is expected to return to action after a few months.
Sean O’Malley warns Petr Yan against confronting Merab Dvalishvili
During a recent sit-down, former UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley advised his former opponent, Petr Yan, not to fight Merab Dvalishvili after returning to competition. octagon after lower back surgery.
Dvalishvili’s heavy wrestling style, constant takedown attempts and relentless pressure may be too much for someone who has just come out of back trouble.
O’Malley added that he is “bad at wrestling” and would not shoot takedowns against Yan. He then shouted ‘No Mercy’ to take it back with him instead, in a fight where both fighters would potentially stand and trade, something O’Malley likes to do and has an advantage in.
“I want Petr Yan next. I hate the idea of Petr coming off back surgery and fighting Merab. You’re going to fight Merab within a year of back surgery? It sounds like a terrible mistake. I’m not going to go out there and try to shoot him and wrestle him. Why fight Merab after back surgery when you can fight me? I’m bad at wrestling.”

Sean O’Malley could be next to fight Umar Nurmagomedov
Sean O’Malley recently broke his two-fight losing streak by defeating Song Yadong at UFC 324. He has expressed interest in joining Cory Sandhagen next, only if the UFC pays him the same amount as a title fight.
Otherwise, ‘Suga’ doesn’t mind waiting for another title shot.
On the other hand, the manager of No. 2 ranked bantamweight contender Umar Nurmagomedov recently revealed that discussions are underway regarding a potential fight with O’Malley. However, nothing has been finalized yet. He told Sport24:
“That’s what all parties are showing interest in. We want the fight with Sean O’Malley. As I understand it, O’Malley is not against it or avoiding it. Logically it makes sense. But there is no confirmation yet, no dates or signed contracts. Still, it’s probably going in that direction.”

‘Suga’, on the other hand, has not shown any interest in working with Nurmagomedov.
