Manchester United drew 2-2 at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.

Story of the match

After taking the lead with Casemiro’s header, United went into half-time with the lead.

Nevertheless, United started the second half in terrible fashion, conceding two goals within five minutes to surrender the lead.

However, the Red Devils dug in and found the equalizer ten minutes before the end with a stunning equalizer from Amad.

Controversy

The home side and fans were furious at the referees’ decision to award Man United a corner in the first half, which eventually led to Casemiro’s opener.

Nicolo Savona had tried to keep the ball in play, but the referees ruled that this had not worked and awarded United a corner.

The rules state that the ball must be completely out of play had to be considered and video evidence was largely inconclusive as to whether this was the case or not.

Sean Dyche anger

In comments carried by talkSPORTDyche criticized the referee’s decision to award a corner.

He complained: ‘It’s just bizarre because I had another conversation with it after last week [PGMOL chief] Howard [Webb]in which I express my concerns about the bigger picture. Because this VAR thing wants referees to talk to the fans, I don’t know why, it just wastes more time.

Dyche was surprised that the referees could not use VAR to check whether the ball had gone out of bounds, explaining: “Referees going to the screen, I don’t know why, it just wastes more time. We know what’s going to happen. And then a corner that has gone against us twice is, what, five seconds?”

He also claimed it was unfair for officials to make a decision from so far away.

Dyche added: “What’s even worse now is that the assistant referee has given the ball from about 75 meters away, behind goal sight by the way, the goal net, and can apparently see it. Then it’s even worse, and we all know the rules about the ball, because if it goes one millimeter it’s not in the goal.”

The Englishman was also surprised that the decision was given to the attacking team and complained again: “I can’t figure it out. Two in two weeks is a farce for me. You might get one a season that’s a bit like that, but not two in two weeks.”

United fans will be wondering where the media and public outrage was last weekend when Danny Welbeck’s free-kick against the Red Devils was controversial moved forward about five meters from where the original error occurred.
