Scratby Table Tennis Club in Norfolk has received a grant of almost £2,000 to support sessions to help older people play table tennis regularly.
The club received £1,854 from the Norfolk Community Foundation through the Connecting Older People Fund to support the provision of a reasonably priced place for seniors to meet in the warmth.
The club hosts sessions at All Saints Parish Hall, Beach Road, Scratby. On Tuesdays from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and Thursdays from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Club treasurer Gerry Bennett said: “Scratby Table Tennis is an unincorporated community interest organization providing services mainly to seniors in the area. Our aim is to provide a place to meet others, for a chat, a hot drink and the occasional biscuit and of course a game of table tennis.
“We have applied for a one-year grant to reduce the cost for each participant from £3 to £2 per session, allowing them to play more than once a week, also making it accessible to more people.
“This will lead to more people wanting to join us, so that’s why we need another table to accommodate more players. We need to train three of our members in first aid and part of the grant will help with that.”
Claire Mackintosh MBE, Chief Executive of the Norfolk Community Foundation, said: “Norfolk Community Foundation is delighted to support this much-needed project which will make a real difference to the community. We wish them every success in their work.”
