Defending Girls’ Singles champion Cindy Xiao (pictured above) leads the England squad for the Primary Schools International in Scotland in April – having been called up for the fourth year in a row.
England will face teams from Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Guernsey and Jersey as they look to defend both team titles won at the 2025 edition of the event in Wales. They also won a total of five medals in singles.
The squad for the competition, from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 April at the Inverclyde National Training Center in Largs, consists of:
Boys: Lok Hei (Hayfield) Lam (Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, Cheshire), Dominic Rimmy (London Academy, London North), Jacob Dennison (Greatwood Primary School, Lancashire), Daniyal Janmohamed (Haberdashers’ School Elstree, Hertfordshire). Non-playing captain: Dave Pilkington.
Girls: Bethany Yang (Haberdashers’ Girls School Elstree, Hertfordshire), Isabella Xiao Xu (Farringtons School, London South), Cindy Xiao (Castor CE Primary, Cambridgeshire), Hattie Xiao (Castor CE Primary, Cambridgeshire). Non-playing captain: Teresa Bennett.
The head of the delegation is Gail Johns. Referees must be confirmed.
The team events are played on Friday afternoon and Saturday, the individual events on Sunday.
Schools Internationals organizer Kate Hughes said: “Cindy’s selection for the fourth consecutive year reflects her excellent consistency and dedication, while it is equally exciting to see the rest of the players get their first opportunity to represent England’s schools.
“Together they form a strong and talented squad who I am sure will represent England with pride, confidence and passion at the upcoming Primary Schools Internationals in April. Good luck!”
