Scheifele’s four-point night lifts Jets past Wild 6-2

Jonathan Toews extended his scoring streak to four games when he opened the scoring at 14:08 on the power play. Mark Scheifele’s one-timer was stopped by Jesper Wallstedt, and Toews knocked in the rebound for his 900th NHL point.

The Jets would enter the first intermission in style, scoring two goals in the final eleven seconds, yes, the final eleven seconds, of the period. Dylan DeMelo’s point shot was kicked to Tanner Pearson in front, and his first shot was stopped by Wallstedt, but he capitalized on his own rebound to put the Jets ahead 2-0 with his seventh of the year at 19:49. Then, with 1.6 seconds left, Toews won a draw against Scheifele, who set up Josh Morrissey for a one-timer, and blasted his ninth of the year past the Minnesota netminder in the final seconds.

Danila Yurov got the Wild on the board at 4:53 of the second period with his seventh of the season, but at 9:33 Logan Stanley stepped in a clapper at the left faceoff point right after the Jets’ power play ended and beat Wallstedt post and in for his eighth of the year, restoring Winnipeg’s three-goal lead.

Gabriel Vilardi and Scheifele would dig Minnesota’s grave even deeper when Vilardi found the back of the net for his 19th on the power play at 12:51 when he tapped in a puck that came off the side of the net off the end boards. Then, at the 5:12 mark, Scheifele added his 23rd when Alex Iafallo drove around the net and spotted Scheifele at the right faceoff point, setting him up for a quick wrist shot that found its way in and made it 6-1.

Minnesota tried to get back on the scoresheet in the third and managed to get one past Connor Hellebuyck with Marcus Johansson’s 13th, but it didn’t matter as the Jets picked up their fourth straight victory. They improved to 19-22-5, as Hellebuyck made 32 stops.
