Santiago Luna admits he made a mistake in his win over Angel Pacheco at UFC Mexico

Santiago Luna acknowledges the mistake that led to the end of his finishing streak. Luna (8-0) took on fellow newcomer Angel Pacheco (7-4) in a bantamweight tilt at UFC Mexico on Saturday at Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico. As a former Mexican wrestling champion, Luna Pacheco was expected to dominate on the ground. But Pacheco showed impressive defense by getting back to his feet every time he was knocked down. However, Luna defeated Pacheco with his feet and earned a unanimous decision.

Luna’s win over Pacheco was the first time he saw the judges’ scorecards. Luna believes he could have kept his finishing streak intact had he not chased Pacheco. The undefeated 21-year-old believes he should have instead targeted the body of a durable fighter like Pacheco.

Work on the body

“I couldn’t keep up with my string of finishes, but I think I put in a pretty good performance for people to enjoy…I don’t think anyone has the privilege of having a show like that for 15 minutes,” Luna told the UFC. “I think people enjoyed every second of 15 minutes. I’m really committed to the people and I’m not a boring fighter. And I think that’s the reason the UFC is here… I would say, with people like Pacheco, moms are strong and they don’t go down, they just aim for the body. That’s what kills them. I think I aimed too hard for the head for the knockout. But I do think the midsection was one part I missed. So maybe put a little more emphasis on that.” and provide a new finish.
