Former PFL Heavyweight Champion Ante Delija made his Octagon debut in UFC Paris, in a high-profile match-up with Marcin Tybura.
Getting a name like Tybura was an indication of how high the UFC Delija considered. Tell the others? The promotion had tried to sign him earlier, only for the PFL to retain its services.
It wasn’t long on Saturday, Delija had realized his nickname and proved that he was ‘hiking problems’, at least for Marcin Tybura. Delija came blistering and immediately marched Tybura down with a heavy combination that forced him to peel up. Tybura succeeded in briefly turning the momentum by pressing Delija against the cage and shooting deep in front of a Takedown, but the defense of Delija held strong.
As soon as they returned to the open space, Delija connected to a sharp shovel left hand and unleashed another barrage, so that an impressive UFC debut victory was sealed. The fight lasted a little more than two minutes and Delija was clearly emotional afterwards and fell to his knees.
In his interview after the fight, the Croatian heavyweight appealed to come back from a broken leg in Anderson Silva style to reach the UFC, and thank everyone from his team to the promotion to UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall, who was present in the Accor Arena.
Official result: Ante Delija Def. Marcin Tybura by who (punches), round 1, 2:03
