A latest media report has made it clear that both franchises have held discussions with all players involved in the trade deal and all are ready to send an expression of interest to the IPL Governing Council in this regard. If it goes through, it will be one of the most historic trade deals in the history of the cash-rich tournament.
“Both RR and CSK are required to send expressions of interest with the names of the three players involved in the trade to the IPL Governing Council. As per the trade rules, once written consent is received from the players, the franchises can hold further discussions on a final agreement, which will also be ratified by the Governing Council,” ESPNcricinfo wrote in its latest report.
Notably, Samson has represented RR since his debut with them in 2012. When the franchise was suspended for two years in 2016 and 2017, those were the only seasons where Samson found home in another franchise when he played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). The same goes for Jadeja. He has a long-standing relationship with the franchise and even briefly captained the team in 2023.
Curran, on the other hand, has represented Punjab Kings on a few occasions while remaining with CSK for the remainder of his IPL career, which took off in 2019. The England all-rounder has recently come to prominence and regained a place in the international squad, as well as captaining his side in The Hundred Men’s competition.
Who will keep the wickets for CSK – Samson or MS Dhoni?
Two genuine match-winning all-rounders against Samson, who is a leadership material and also offers the option of a wicketkeeper-batsman to the legendary MS Dhoni, could be one of the reasons why CSK is interested in adding his likes to their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
Notably, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed that Dhoni will play the 2026 season, but his knee problems suggest he could simply play as an Impact Substitute. He captained CSK once in the second half of the 2025 season Travel Giikwad was ruled out due to a broken shoulder. However, he will be a specialist again as the Maharashtra batsman is expected to take charge once again.
