The world’s best players converged on Singapore this week for the 2026 staging of the Singapore Smash. The early action kicked off Thursday with qualifying rounds in which eight men and eight women had the chance to win three matches and then advance to the main draw.
TeamUSA had two women in the qualifiers (Sally Moyland and Jessica Reyes Lai) and Ma Jinbao, Sid Naresh and Nandan Naresh). Of our competitors, only Sally Moyland reached the main draw. Sally had a nice run, beating Huang Yu-Jie of Taipei 3-0, then beating Yashawsini Ghorpade of India 3-1 and finally beating Lai Chloe of Singapore 3-0 to win her qualifying match. Sally now moves on to face Lily Zhang in the main event, where both Americans will face German players, Sally against Sabine Winter and Lily against Xiona Shan.
Jessica Reyes Lai won her opening match 3-0 against Neda Shahsavari of Iran before falling 1-3 to Yuan Wan of Germany. Both Naresh brothers fell in the opening round of their qualifiers, with Nandan losing 1-3 to Hong Kong’s Chan Baldwin and Sid losing 2-3 to compatriot Ma Jinbao. Jinbao led twice in his second match, but ultimately lost 2-3 to Russian Vladimir Sidorenko. Sidorenko won the qualifying match.
The main draws for men’s and women’s singles feature 64 players each, and the three doubles events all start in the round of 32. That means there are plenty of matches to be played in Singapore – with the finals scheduled over a full week (Sunday, March 1). Watch and we will keep you informed of the progress of the promotion.
