Group draft racing returns to Globe Derby Park on Saturday evening, with the South Australian Harness Racing Club holding an eleven-race card with more than $220,000 in prize money up for grabs.
The meeting will feature many of the leading open class pacers, trotters and two and three year old pacers from SA and Victoria in four group and listed races.
The Group 3 $60,000 Ladbroke’s SA Pacing Cup Final, the state’s signature event, brought together a top class field who qualified in last Saturday’s heats.
Emma Stewart-trained four-year-old Miki To Success, the fastest heat winner, has been installed as $1.20 favourite, ahead of his stablemate Sir Jimmy ($3.30), a last-place start winner of the Veterinary Surgeon’s Cup.
Ladbroke’s $40,000 Group 3 SA Trotters Cup final offers a host of winning opportunities with seven horses at single-figure odds. Victorian raider John’s Boy and local All The Trix share the top bill of $4.50, from Kyvalley Heist ($6.50), while Ryan Hryhorec quartet Aldebaran Dexta, Doff Your Cap, Ebony’s Avenger and Regal Attire are all well in contention.
The $30,000 SA Pacing Derby, with generous sponsorship support from the Seymour Group, appears to be hoping for three major winners: Victorians Silver Pistol and Forty Love and the south-east-trained Always Dancing.
Silver Pistol, winner of the NSW Derby heat, has a huge advantage over his two main rivals Always Dancing and Forty Love, the two heat winners, who start from barriers eight and 10 respectively.
The Peter Bain-trained One Millie and Hez So Royal, who won the Alabar SA BOTRA Golden Nursery heat last week, will meet again in the Listed $25,000 Final. Only Jimmy, the winner of the slowest heat, is the only other runner in contention.
A 50-year association with the sport will be marked by the running of the $20,000 SAHRC legend Anne Mowday Pace. Anne has been a breeder, owner, groom and manager, including a five-year term as president of the SAHRC.
In her most recent role as President, Anne has been instrumental in delivering the long-awaited land development project at Port Wakefield Road which will ensure the club’s financial security for the future.
The first race is scheduled for 5:34 PM (Adelaide time).
