The longest waiting in Golf has only a few hours left. Finally we are approaching the first Tee -shot of the Ryder Cup in New York and the Golf.com Team has taken this meticulous last few hours up close.
There is still some time before the best in the world starts working on Bethpage Black on Friday morning, but we learned a lot in the first few days. With the opening ceremonies engaged because of rain in the forecast, we do the same with our first observations of the on-site crew.
James Colgan, News and Functions Editor ((@Jamescolgan26): Okay, let’s start with an easy: what is the most surprising thing you learned at Bethpage for the first three days?
Sean Zak, senior writer (@Sean_zak): It has nothing to do with the players. I am most surprised how the map market was completely reversed and suddenly Wednesday and Thursday -practitioned tickets were very feasible. Like in just $ 40 when they were priced in the beginning of $ 200. I’m not sure what it is, but there is something wrong with that original price, the actual value As a fan you receive round days on this practice, and whatever the market is shrinking. Someone will investigate on golf.com.
Dylan Dethier, senior writer (@dylan_dethier)): I was surprised to walk the course and see how on-rough de Ruige is real. I knew they had given it a good hairstyle. I knew that the American side regards it as an advantage to limit the damage of a quirky T -shirt. But I am also used to serving Bethpage a major championship, the American open-style test. In reality, the circumstances that Colgan and Co. Playing on Bethpage every week more difficult than what the best in the world will tackle this week. Dart-Fest incoming.
James: As the Long Islander’s country of birth of our crew, I am surprised to see (and to hear) the pearl parks. Yes, the expectation is that things will be loud and noisy and perhaps a bit exaggerated. But the suggestion that New Yorkers are somehow infinitely worse than any other Ryder Cup -Mixed small Tropey. My culture is not a costume!
Speaking of costumes … Patrick Cantlay arrived on the spot with a suitable hat and another Ryder Cup -wooncontroverse has (so far) avoided. Instead, who or what do you think is the biggest story of a tournament week?
Sean: This can be a longshot, but it could be the week of Rory versus Americans. There is already a simmering fear between McILROY and BRYSON DECHAMBEAU. There is one best between Europe’s leader and Scottie Scheffler, World No. 1. There is a complicated relationship between McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay. What about McIlroy and Keegan Bradley, who lost a singles match to Rory the last time the euros won on American soil? Add all that to the fact that McIlroy has very publicly pronounced a few controversial opinions and even clicked on some of them and you get a character who has earned some anger in these parts. I look forward to seeing if that is about calling in a large way …
Dylan: If we were in Europe, the home crowd would triple the money items. This is already an important point of conversation on the site, this idea that the Americans are greedy individualists, and it has already been taken a life of its own. I don’t think this storyline is as sinister somewhere as the euro you would like to believe – it’s a bit stupid that the players Must not Is paid for this megaPectakel, and what we have heard, does every American seem to donate most of their stipend money to a charity but why miss the chance of grabbing the moral high ground against your opponents?
Anyway, we are very not in Europe. So I would expect Rory, the fans and at least one Chippy American to result in another nice excitement.
James: We know that we cover every two years every two years someone Will appear like a Ryder Cup hero for the next five days. In Rome it was Ludvig Aberg. In Whistling, Scottie Scheffler and Bryson Dechambeau.
Between the five Rookies – JJ Spaun, Ben Griffin, Russell Henley, Cam Young and Rasmus Hojgaard – and the many travel companions, who is the secret weapon of this year?
Sean: It is certainly Cameron Young, the indigenous new Yawka that happens to play the best wave of his life. It could easily be linked to the human lightning distance that is Deschamebeau and eventually drives that wave to a number of points.
Dylan: I will double it on Young. He is on fire and he plays well in this part of the country. I also found his introduction to the opening ceremony, in particular moving; I doubt a soft spoken Tour-Pro as Young ever felt that the crowd embraces as he did when Captain Bradley introduced him as ‘New York’s own’.
James: Based on what you saw during the practice round days and what you know about these teams, who leaves this week with the most earned points?
Sean: Tommy Fleetwood. Playing the best wave of his life is pre -eminently mating with everyoneAnd will probably play alongside Rory McIlroy. That is a recipe for 4.5 or more.
James: I think it’s Bryson. He is a ‘Gladiator golfer’, as Xander Schauffele said last, and this is the best environment in which he will have played since his transition to a Megastar content.
Dylan: I assume that we all just pass Scottie Scheffler because he is the chalk choice, right?! Anyway, Gimme Cam Young to 4-0-0. He seems comfortable with himself and with his place in this team in a way that I have never seen him before.
James: Give me a short answer here: which combination of both sides do you want to see the most?
I will start: Justin Thomas and Bryson Dephambeau have played together in practice rounds and I think they would be an almost perfect match. They are different players, but they are both high-energy, high intensity boys, and JT has shown that he can match Bryson’s Showman Streak.
Sean: This is by no means a sexy choice, but I like to consider myself an analytical attitude, and I just think that Sam Burns and Collin Morikawa can be a perfect match, meaning of words. They won an important competition in Rome that is understandably forgotten. Morikawa needs the good Juju to inject into his game before 2026. Burns needs a rebound to restore his shaky Ryder Cup reputation that he doesn’t even deserve! So the boys lock up for three games and give me a good feeling as a prognosticator.
Dylan: I give you one on each side: for the euros, Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton provide a fun but also particularly fleeting combination; Do we get club casting? Maniacal smile? Ham-and-Egg Birdies all the way ‘around’? On the American side, Gimme de Rookie combination of Ben Griffin and (again) Cameron Young, who both could really live in this area. (Also for the point of Sean-As Sam Burns a number of large puts, as he did in Montreal last year, he could be an important factor.)
James: OR now the most important Finisher. What is the final score, and who wins?
Sean: Europe makes everyone very nervous by calming the public on Friday and Saturday, with 9-7 that arrives on Sunday, but the Americans gather for a victory of 15-13 and Bethpage is beaten as a fantastic, iconic Ryder Cup location. Keegan Bradley then secretly tells every player in his team that he will request them again from Adare Manor.
DESTHIER: They again captain – and also play next to them. I have Team USA, 15.5-12.5, but it will not feel safe until the statement of Russell Henley wins Sunday afternoon.
Colgan: 14-14. Europe retains the cup.
