West Brom signed Aune Heggebo during the summer transfer window, and after a slow start, the Norway international is on fire.

West Brom have had a challenging campaign so far. They came into the season with fairly tempered expectations, knowing that they are still a club looking to stabilize and become more sustainable.

Yet there is also criticism summer date Ryan Mason. The WBA head coach made a fine start, but poor form and disappointing performances since then culminated when his side found themselves 2-0 down inside 11 minutes against lowly Swansea City on Saturday.

Fortunately, the Baggies provided a crucial setback. The striker was central to the fightback Aune Heggebowho scored a brace within seven minutes of the restart to bring his side back on level terms.

It costs Heggebo five goals in his last four championship games and seven goals in all competitions this season. It appears that West Brom boss Mason’s prediction for the 24-year-old striker has also come true.

What Ryan Mason said about Aune Heggebo after the win over Oxford United

Heggebo came off the bench to score the winner for West Brom against Oxford United in early November.

The well-taken header ended an eight-match drought and was only his second goal in fourteen championship games. The Norwegian had been the subject of some questions from fans, with many wondering whether he had the finishing or goal-scoring instincts to be the WBA’s prolific striker.

After his goal in Oxford, Mason expressed public support for his striker, predicting the goals would flow from there. He said:

“I think there’s a lot [more to come]especially in terms of objectives – I really believe that he can contribute much more in terms of numbers. You saw today what kind of finish it was: a really good run and a really good finish, so that’s nice and I’m sure that will give him some confidence going into the games where he can help.”

And it’s hard to argue that Mason was wrong.

He would score a number of almost identical goals against Coventry City, putting him in the right position to turn in two Mikey Johnston crosses on half-time. He did not score against Birmingham City, but his double in Swansea City’s comeback put him back on the scoresheet.

Aune Heggebo’s West Brom record (all competitions)

West Brom will be hoping Aune Heggebo can maintain her good form during the hectic festive schedule

It may take a little longer for players from abroad to establish themselves in Championship football. Many European competitions don’t come close to the pace and intensity of the second tier.

The Norwegian Eliteserien is an increasingly competitive and strong competition. To put that into perspective, Bodo/Glimt reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League last season and didn’t even win the 2025 Eliteserien title.

Heggebo was a big hit in his native country. His hard work and physicality have quickly endeared him to the West Brom faithful, and if the goals keep flowing, it won’t be long before he is a firm favourite.

The games come quickly and quickly, which can benefit a player like Heggebo, who is brimming with confidence. If he can keep up this form for WBA, they can get the points that got them onto the championship table and into the play-off race over Christmas.
